Google has announced a new privacy policy that will take effect on June 1, 2023. The policy, which replaces the previous one that was over 100 pages long and full of legal jargon, consists of only three words: “Just trust us.”
Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai explained that the new policy is designed to simplify and streamline the user experience, as well as to demonstrate Google’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“We realized that our old privacy policy was too complicated and confusing for most users to understand, let alone read. We also realized that we don’t need to explain how we collect, use, and share your data, because you already know that we do it for your own benefit. So we decided to cut the crap and just tell you the truth: Just trust us.”
Pichai assured users that Google will continue to protect their data and respect their choices, as long as they don’t interfere with Google’s business model or vision.
“We value your privacy as much as we value our own. That’s why we only use your data to provide you with better products and services, to show you relevant ads and content, and to advance our mission of organizing the world’s information and making it universally accessible and useful. We also respect your right to control your data, as long as you don’t opt out of anything that would make us lose money or influence. We promise that we will never sell your data to third parties, unless they are our partners or subsidiaries or affiliates or contractors or vendors or anyone else who pays us enough.”
Pichai added that users who have any questions or concerns about the new policy can contact Google’s customer support team, which will respond with a pre-recorded message saying “Just trust us.”
